  •     U.S. Highway 2, from essentially the east entrance into Crookston all the way to Groveland Avenue, will undergo repairs this summer, and it will impact traffic patterns locally.
Bids for the project are to be opened March 8.
Project Engineer Troy Strassburg, of the District 2 Minnesota Department of Transportation office in Bemidji, told the Times he is anticipating the work to begin around May 29 and continue through June. The Crookston portion is part of a larger, $2.2 million project, but Strassburg said most of the work wil take place here.
In both the east and westbound lanes throughout Crookston “partial depth” and “full depth” joints and cracks will be fixed, and some “full panels” of concrete will be replaced. Several repairs are needed on the Robert Street Bridge, as well, he explained.
As for how it will impact traffic through Crookston, Strassburg said those details are still being ironed out as the plans, specifications and schedule take shape. The contractor who is awarded the project will also have a major say in how traffic is routed. “I’m sure there will be some lane shifts as well as closures with work happening in both the east and westbound lanes,” he said, adding that no detours are planned.
The work will involve the contractor grinding the concrete surface over the entire length of the project through town to take out minor fauls and improve the ride. Concrete joints will be sealed, and permanent striping will be applied, Strassburg said.
