Pirate senior Ryan Bittner has been selected as one of 12 finalists for the inaugural Reed Larson Award, an award for Minnesota's top high school senior defenseman.
Bittner finished the season with 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists) in 27 games, which is tied for the second most of the finalists.
Two other area players, Chris Forney of Thief River Falls and Tanner Okeson of Roseau, are also finalists.
The winner of the Reed Larson Award will be based on the following criteria: academics, community/extra-curricular activities, citizenship, coachability and, of course, on-ice performance.
The winner of the inaugural Reed Larson Award will be announced on Tuesday, March 5. The award will be presented at the Class AA State Tournament Banquet on Wednesday, March 6 at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium.
