  • Highland School sixth-grader Yash Kapoor was treated to breakfast, along with his mom, Sonam, and his teacher, Jamie Kresl, at RBJ’s Restaurant Thursday morning by Superintendent Chris Bates.
Kapoor had advanced from the regional spelling bee in Thief River Falls earlier this month to the state bee, which was held Wednesday in Fergus Falls. The next stop after that would have been the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., but Kapoor was tripped up in the fourth round by the word “meistersinger,” a German word meaning “master singer.” Kapoor said he put the “i” before the “e” in attempting to spell the word.
