  • An 8-month-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert was reunited with his mother Wednesday just hours after he allegedly was abducted by a woman who had recently befriended the boy's mother, Minneapolis police said.
The infant, Carlos Orozco, apparently was not harmed but was undergoing a medical evaluation as a precaution, police said. Police arrested a woman who had apparently struck up a friendship with the mother in recent months.
The boy's mother told police she left Carlos in his car seat in her apartment while she took a shower around noon Wednesday. He was gone when she got out.
Several people close to the family told the Star Tribune the mother and the suspect met in a laundry and became friends.
Officers went to a home in south Minneapolis after getting an anonymous tip just before 4 p.m. They found the child safe in the basement and arrested the suspect, police said.
When the mother got word that her baby was found, she stepped out of her house and yelled "Ya lo encontraron!" — Spanish for, "They found him," the Star Tribune reported.
Alvaro Puente, a friend of the family, said that Carlos is one of five children who live in the three-story converted house with their mother and father. Puente said the family called him at about 11:30 a.m. about the missing baby, the Star Tribune reported.
An Amber Alert issued to help find Carlos was canceled.
