  • An Arizona State University student who got lost on a hike in mountains east of Phoenix was rescued within about 16 hours of being reported missing.
    Tempe police say 21-year-old Michael Kmit of Minnesota was reported missing by his roommates after he failed to return from a hike Saturday in the Superstition Mountains.
    Authorities eventually located Kmit's vehicle near a trailhead and used ground crews, dogs, horses and helicopters to find him.
    Police say Kmit didn't take any food or water with him on the hike.
    He suffered from dehydration.
