Some of you may have heard of the overly used excuse called "senioritis". What is senioritis you may ask? It is a crippling disease that strikes high school seniors.
Symptoms include: laziness and an over-excessive wearing of track pants, old athletic shirts, sweatpants, athletic shorts, and sweatshirts.
It also features a lack of studying, repeated absences, and a generally dismissive attitude. The only known cure is a phenomenon known as…graduation.
Senioritis can be dangerous and not everyone may suffer from this, but those who do, suffer from having their grades drop significantly, incompletes, or even failing courses. If that happens, some colleges may rescind offers of admission. Once that happens, people usually wake up and think that they should probably start caring about their grades and working towards actually graduating.
The cure for senioritis? Well, there is no known cure, clearly. But I do happen to have solutions to this crippling disease. You just need motivation and ambition to finish out basically four more months of high school. It isn't that hard if you apply yourself.
Another thing many, as well as I need to work on is procrastination. We decide to finish things the very last possible minute or not even finish what we need to at all. A lot of people I know, including myself, wait until our study halls to do everything. What do you think happens during study hall? We talk and don't do the homework. We create excuses to do it at a later date, and we find ourselves either too busy to do it, or purely too lazy to do anything.
Basically, to fix that issue, just apply your abilities. If you really sit and think about it, you've been in school for almost twelve years now. Our brains are filled with all of this knowledge that we aren't even using. I know that people would love to see kids applying themselves, and the teachers would probably feel accomplishment as well because they have done their jobs and shown us what we need to know.
Another thing people don't realize, especially at a young age, is that high school goes by so fast. Once you hit your freshman year, it's like the blink of an eye and you're already graduating.
Time flies, and your senior year is supposed to be the most memorable time of your life. It's supposed to be fun. Instead of enjoying school, we dread it. We dread it so much that we acquire senioritis.
We don't embrace our knowledge and just get things done when they need to be. Instead we sit and complain about how much we have to get done. We stress ourselves out with all of the things that come along with being a senior; all of the responsibilities and decisions. We worry so much that we don't take in all of the amazing memories we can get out of our hopefully, once in a lifetime, senior year.
