  • On the heels of a trip to a U of M Board of Regents meeting in Minneapolis, U of M, Crookston Chancellor Fred Wood said he heard positive things about the Crookston campus’ push for a Wellness Center on campus. But, Wood added in the latest campus e-Update, everyone is being realistic, too.
The center was the subject of “many conversations,” Wood said. “Folks continue to be cautiously optimistic, but everyone recognizes that there will be many discussions before this is funded.”
One thing potentially working in UMC’s favor, at least when it comes to clout, is that District 1 State Sen. LeRoy Stumpf, which encompasses Crookston, is the chair of the Senate Capital Investment Committee.
At Wood’s invitation, Stumpf visited the campus this past Saturday while he was in Crookston to meet with constituents.
“His visit was an important opportunity to discuss the project and tour our present facilities,” Wood said. “The meeting with him went very well. He now fully understands this critical need and he seemed very supportive of the project.”
Wood said plans for a similar meeting with State Rep. Deb Kiel of Crookston are in the works.
