  • UMC Equestrian earns 2nd and 3rd place finishes in home shows

  • The Minnesota, Crookston hunt seat equestrian team held their second weekend of home shows for the 2012-13 season Saturday and Sunday at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC). The Golden Eagles hosted competing teams from Rochester Community and Technical College, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, North Dakota State University, Gustavus Adolphus College, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, University of Minnesota, St. Cloud State University, Lakehead University, Carleton College and St. Olaf College.
     
    UMC finished the home shows placing second overall and winning the Reserve High Point Team Title Saturday and third place in Sunday’s show.
     
    Both Saturday and Sunday’s competition opened with strong jumping rounds in the Equitation Over Fences portion of the show. This momentum continued to build as the Golden Eagles moved into Equitation on Flat on both Saturday and Sunday. Angela Peterson (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) put together a strong weekend for the Golden Eagles as she placed second in Open Equitation Over Fences and then went on to win her section of Open Equitation on the Flat Sunday. Emily Steeley (Fr., Portsmouth, R.I.) earned a third-place finish in Open Equiation on the Flat Sunday.
     
    In addition, Jessica Charles (Sr., Belgrade Lakes, Maine) was second in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences Saturday and Intermediate Equitation on the Flat Sunday. Denise Thompson (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) won her Intermediate Equitation on the Flat class during Saturday’s competition and took third in both Intermediate Equitation Over Fences and on the Flat Sunday.
     
    Sable Bettencourt (Fr., Cloquet, Minn.) was second in her section of Equitation Over Fences Saturday and won her jumping class in Sunday’s show. She also won her Novice Equitation on the Flat class during Saturday’s competition and was third on the flat Sunday.
     
    Hannah Nedrud (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) opened her weekend garnering third-place honors in Novice Equitation Over Fences Saturday, went on to a great performance on the flat as she won her class of Novice Equitation on the Flat both Saturday and Sunday.
     
    Annalee Sundin (Jr., Deer River, Minn.) won her Novice Equitation on the Flat Class while Katherine Berg (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) was third in Advanced Walk Trot Canter. Mikala Guidinger (So., Rochester, Minn.) earned third-place laurels in Advanced Walk Trot Canter both Saturday and Sunday. Rachel Gaardsmoe (Fr., Petaluma, Calif.) and Rebekah Landmark (Fr., Montevideo, Minn.) were both second in their respective Beginner Walk Trot Canter sections Saturday while Landmark came in third-place against Sunday. Paige Clark (Fr., Andover, Minn.) won her class of Walk Trot Canter Saturday.
     
    The Golden Eagles will next compete Feb. 23 as they head to Wisconsin-River Falls for a one-day show and then IHSA Regionals, also in River Falls, Wis.) Feb. 24. The UMC western equestrian team will compete at University of Minnesota next weekend.
