  • Boys' basketball: Pirates split with top teams in Section 8AA North

  • Now 10-10 on the season, the Pirates will host Waubun Tuesday and Thief River Falls on Thursday.

  • The Pirates split a pair of road games Friday and Saturday with the two teams ahead of them in the Section 8AA North standings. Crookston defeated Pequot Lakes Friday 58-41 in Pequot Lakes and fell to Crosby-Ironton Saturday 67-59 in Crosby.
     
    Now 10-10 on the season, the Pirates will host Waubun Tuesday and Thief River Falls on Thursday.

    In the first half, the Pirates jumped out to a 30-17 lead and outscored the Patriots 28-24 in the second half for the 17-point victory.
     
    Sophomore Aaron Hollcraft had a game-high 17 points, while sophomore Ryan Porter added 12 and seniors Alex Boone and Michael Hefta had eight points.
     
    Jordan Redmond led Pequot Lakes with 14 points.

    Crosby-Ironton jumped out to a 32-20 lead by halftime and held off Crookston's second-half surge, which outscored the Rangers 39-35, for the eight-point victory.
     
    Senior Travis Vatthauer led the Pirates with 14 points, while Hollcraft added 13 points and both Boone and Hefta had 10 points each.
     
    Riley Jacobs had 17 points to lead Crosby-Ironton, while Caleb Baker added 16, Daniel Hudrlik had 12 points and Will Goodwin recorded 11 points.
