  • The Minnesota, Crookston women’s soccer team has announced the additions of 12 student-athletes to the roster. UMC’s recruiting class includes nine high school players who signed National Letters of Intent, one junior college player and two players who are returning to the Golden Eagle squad after sitting out last season.

“It’s a very exciting day for the University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Soccer program,” said head coach Joe Alianiello. “I could not be happier with my first class at UMC.  The 12 newcomers to the team are immediately going to increase our athleticism, speed and depth.  After playing an entire season with only 15 players and being extremely competitive on the field, it will be wonderful to have strength in numbers.  While all are good soccer players, they really are great kids and I am thrilled they have decided to continue their academic and soccer career at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.”

UMC’s 2013 soccer recruiting class is highlighted by a lot of in-state talent as the Golden Eagles are bringing in seven newcomers from the state of Minnesota along with sophomore Cayla Bendel (F, Lakeville, Minn.), who returns to the team. In addition, Coach Joe Alianiello signed one player from Wisconsin, one from North Dakota and one from Montana. By position, the Golden Eagles picked up one goalkeeper, five defenders and four midfielders.

The Golden Eagles went 2-15-1 in coach Alianiello’s first year as head coach of the program. UMC was at a disadvantage on the year while playing in a tough league as they only had 15 players on the roster. UMC will return 11 student-athletes for the 2013 season along with the signees.
