Minnesota, Crookston women’s basketball player Brittani Wiese (Sr., G, Albertville, Minn.) was selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office late Monday morning. The honor is the second of the career for Wiese. She also earned the accolade Dec. 15, 2011 after scoring 21 points in a win over Minnesota State University, Moorhead.
Wiese helped UMC snap a seven-game losing streak last weekend with a weekend sweep of Sioux Falls (76-59) and Southwest Minnesota State (76-72). She averaged 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists on the weekend. She shot 14-of-32 for 43.8 percent from the field and was 4-for-10 from beyond the arc. Wiese started the weekend with a near double-double with 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists as the Golden Eagles defeated Sioux Falls. Wiese had 11 of her points in the second half against the Cougars to help the team to a big victory. On Saturday, Wiese had 24 points, six rebounds and three assists in an overtime win over SMSU. Wiese took the game into her own hands after the first half. The quick guard scored 18 of her 24 points between second half an overtime including nine points in just five minutes of overtime as she was 3-of-4 from the floor helping the Golden Eagles close out a victory over the Mustangs. Wiese came into Saturday averaging 11.7 points on the year.
Wiese became the seventh player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 point milestone earlier this season and now has 1,140 points, which ranks fourth all-time on UMC’s career scoring list. She needs 103 points to move past Kari Score in third place on the all-time charts.
