Daniel Erwin Trontvedt, 49, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 at his home in Grand Forks. He was born on January 16, 1964 at Bethesda Hospital in Crookston, MN, the son of Ervin and Leora (Stai) Trontvedt. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, both in Crookston. Dan attended Crookston Public Schools thru 11th grade and graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1982. While in high school, he worked at various restaurants including A&W and at his Dad's Top Notch Steak House and Drive-In in Fertile.
In 1984, Dan was a Student Assistant Manager at UMC Food Service in Crookston. He worked at RBJ's Restaurant several times over the years. He was a manager at Giovanni's Pizza in Grand Forks and served as Dining Room Manager for a time at the Northland Inn in Crookston. In 1986, Dan received an AA Degree from UMC in Restaurant Management. In 1989, he received an AA Degree in Fashion Merchandising. He also attended and received a cosmetology license from the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis.
He lived in Arizona, California, New York and Hawaii working at various restaurants or salons. He enjoyed spending time at the beach and seemed happiest in Hawaii. Dan loved the restaurant business as was evidenced by his 30+ years in the food service industry. Dan especially loved spending time with family and friends and was always generous. He seldom visited without bringing gifts of food, plants, flowers or treasures he found along the way.
Dan's favorite past times included thrift shopping, rummage sales and dumpster diving, often finding brand new items. He enjoyed going out for Chinese, Thai or Japenese food and loved making Hawaiian 'Saimin' soup and Pico de Gallo for friends and family. He was a very good cook, was artistic and had a natural gift for decorating. He loved cats and his favorite was 'Boomer'.
Dan was preceded in death by his mother, half-sister Kathleen Rindahl, half-sister Constance 'Connie' Copeland step-mother Ruby Trontvedt and step-sister Yvonne Muellner.
He is survived by his Father, Ervin Trontvedt, half-sister Sandra (Warren C.) Juengel, Sanford, MI, half-brother, Michael (Robin) Rindahl, Mebane, N.C. many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews. He is also survived by step brother-in-law Ron Muellner of Brainerd MN, step-sister Lois (Ralph) LeBlanc of Fertile MN, step-sister Georgia (Steve) Gullickson of Bejou MN, step-sister Jane (Leroy) Opdahl of Fertile MN, step-brother Richard Rude of Kalispell MT and many nieces and nephews. Dan is also survived by two lifetime friends Jodi Senske and Jayme Hobbs (Senske).
Memorial services will be on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 11 am in the Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN.
