Alois Bernard Schmitz, 82, of Red Lake Falls, MN died peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his home in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, February 5th 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Chuck and Deacon Adam Hamness Officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Red Lake Falls.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5 – 8 PM with a 7PM prayer service and one hour prior to services all at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Alois Bernard Schmitz was born July 3, 1930 son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Knott) Schmitz near Red Lake Falls, MN. He was raised and attended country school near Red Lake Falls. Alois worked for Cenex in Red Lake Falls up until the time he entered the US Army on November 20, 1952 and served from 1952 until 1954, when he was honorably discharged as Corporal at Ft. Campbell, KY. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and earned his Parachutist Badge.
On October 7, 1952 Alois was united in marriage to Dorine Beauchane at St. Dorothy’s Church in Dorothy, MN. The couple made their first home in Red lake Falls, MN, and then moved to Louisville Township. Alois and Dorine purchased their farmstead on 1961 and together raised their family of 15 children. They also raised grains, diary and livestock.
Alois was a self-employed carpenter most of his adult life. Alois and his brother Linus operated Schmitz Construction, and in 1981 Alois formed Pro Builders Inc. which he operated until his retirement in 1994. Alois then worked for Al Stamorie Contruction for several years.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, playing and umping softball, enjoyed being with his family and watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events, especially when they played softball and high school baseball. Alois was also a drummer with several area bands, and he also enjoyed boating and camping on Maple Lake. His most favorite pastime of the last several years was driving his daily route with his dog Misty by his side.
Alois belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls.
