Crookston Unit of the Civil Air Patrol marks second anniversary

The Crookston Unit of the Civil Air Patrol recently celebrated their second anniversary.

    Within these two years they have successfully implemented the following programs:  Cadet Program, Aerospace Education with Orientation Flights and C-130 flights, Emergency Service with an active and ready ground team, Drug Demand Reduction Program (teaching drug awareness and prevention), Leadership Program, Character Development Program, Physical Training Program and a Safety Program.  In support of these programs they have participated in training that includes: Search and Rescue Exercises, Ground Team Academy, Winter Survival Training, Encampments, Black Cap, National Training at Hawk Mountain and many more.

    The cadets and senior members have also volunteered at local events such as National Night Out, Small Town Saturday in Climax and Celebrate My Drive.  

    Thanks to the initiative of senior member Sue LaPlante several of the cadets have now started to participate in a robotics program.  The Crookston unit was fortunate to have a robot donated by the Bemidji Civil Air Patrol Unit.

    A great ending to a very productive year was the promotion of three cadets.  Alexandra MacGregor was promoted to Cadet Airman 1st Class.  Mathias Schneider was promoted to Cadet Senior Airman.  Zachary Lutz received the Wright Brothers award for successfully completing the Phase I of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program and was promoted to Cadet Senior Staff Sergeant

    New members are welcome to join the Civil Air Patrol Unit at any time.  Meetings are Sundays from 3 to 6 p.m. at Washington School.
