Award recognizes volunteer's dedication.
At RiverView Health's 115th annual meeting, held Monday evening in the Bede Ballroom at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, several employees and volunteers were honored for their exemplary service.
The first individual recognitions of the evening went to Mary Pulkrabek and Shelly Bloom for their tenure on the hospital board of directors. Both completed the maximum allowable term of nine years. Pulkrabek and Bloom were given plaques to commemorate their service. With big shoes to fill, Michelle Cote and Andy Oman were elected to fill the open board seats.
Kari Moe, RiverView's Auxiliary Coordinator, presented the Alta Hermodson Heart and Soul Volunteer of the Year award to Margee Keller. The recipient of the award, established in 2003, must volunteer with RiverView Health, and must also serve as an inspirational example of healthcare volunteerism. Keller has been actively involved with the hospital auxiliary for many years and has served as the bookkeeper and accountant for RiverView's Limited Addition Gift Shop for the past eight years. The sharing of Keller's time and talents has proven, time and again, to be invaluable to the hospital.
For more than 30 years RiverView Health has presented the Reaching Out to Serve award to a person, group or program that symbolizes RiverView's mission of serving the region and demonstrates innovativeness, voluntary or self-initiated efforts and works to improve the access, quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare. The 2013 award was presented by Anne Rasmusson, chairman of the board of directors, to Dr. Idatonye Afonya. Dr. Afonya was nominated and selected to receive the award for his long-term surgical and obstetric back-up services to the medical staff and the community.
In addition to honoring individuals during the meeting, Polk County Health recognized RiverView Health for a commitment to worksite wellness. Sarah Reese, director of Polk County Health, presented the hospital with a check for one thousand dollars to continue this initiative.
