Minnesota, Crookston was swept at home Friday and Saturday by Northern State and MSU Moorhead. The Wolves of Northern State won Friday 72-53 and the Dragons of MSU Moorhead easily won Saturday 71-48 to drop the Golden Eagles to 3-15 on the season and 0-14 against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents.
The Golden Eagles will host Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State next Friday and Saturday.
The Wolves remain in a tie with St. Cloud State for first place in the NSIC North Division.
NSU vs. UMC
Skye Warwick led a three-point explosion for Northern State late in the second half as NSU would hit seven second-half threes to lift the Wolves to victory after UMC was down only 48-44 with 10:52 remaining in the game.
UMC was led by junior guard Ashton Harrell (Houston, Texas), who had 14 points, including ten in the first half. Harrell was 4-of-10 for the game and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. James Sparkman (R-Jr., F, Ypsilanti, Mich.) added 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting and senior point guard Almir Krdzalic (Sioux Falls, S.D.) chipped in eight points and dished out seven assists.
The Golden Eagles finished the game shooting 19-of-54 from the field for 35.2 percent and were 5-of-17 for 29.4 percent from behind the three-point line. UMC was out-rebounded by the tune of 33 to 23 on the night as Northern State was led by six rebounds from both Collin Pryor and Mitch White. The Golden Eagles were led on the boards by five rebounds from Brandon Burns (Jr., F, Baton Rouge, La.).
Northern State shot 25-of-42 for the game for 59.5 percent and ended the game shooting 9-of-19 for 47.4 percent from trey. In the first half, the Wolves were only 2-of-8 from behind the three-point line as they hit seven threes in the second half. Five of those three-point shots came after the 10-minute mark passed in the second half.
Pryor led the Wolves with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Warwick added 11 points including three treys as he was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Warwick came into the game averaging only 4.6 points per game.
MSUM vs. UMC
MSU Moorhead went on a 21-2 run in the last seven minutes of the first half and the first five minutes of the second half as they defeated UMC. The Golden Eagles were ahead 19-18 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half before they went cold.
The Golden Eagles were led by Sparkman with 14 points on 6-of-16 shooting. Sparkman came into Saturday averaging 7.1 points per game. Junior forward Brandon Burns (Baton Rouge, La.) added 11 points for the Golden Eagles while sophomore guard Tim Lubke (St. Paul) added nine points on 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the arch.

UMC finished the game shooting 16-of-55 for 29.1 percent from the field. They were 8-of-21 for 38.1 percent in the first half. The Golden Eagles shot 7-of-21 from trey for 33.3 percent including going 5-of-12 in the second period. UMC struggled from the charity stripe on the game connecting on only 9-of-16 attempts for 56.3 percent.
UMC was controlled on the boards as MSU Moorhead out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 48-29 led by 11 rebounds from Ben Figini. UMC was led on the boards by senior forward Abdou Niang (Dakar, Senegal), who finished with seven rebounds.
Alex Novak led the Dragons on the night with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field while Jordan Riewer also had 14 points. Evan Holt would come off the bench for 10. MSU Moorhead shot 22-of-53 for 41.5 percent for the game and were 5-of-19 for 26.3 percent from beyond the arc.
