Crookston High School is also hosting this year's Sub-section 30 One-Act Play Tournament, with Ada-Borup, Fertile-Beltrami, Norman County East, Ulen-Hitterdal and Norman County West schools scheduled to compete along with Crookston. The contest, open to the public, will be held Thursday, Jan. 24 in the CHS auditorium, beginning at 4 p.m. There is no admission fee, but no one will be allowed in once the doors are closed for each performance, which last roughly 35 minutes. The CHS drama team is scheduled to perform its entry, "Hoodie,"at approximately 6:30 p.m. The top two finishers in each of four sub-sections will advance to the Section 8A contest at Ada-Borum on Saturday, Feb. 2. Winners of each section contest will perform at the State One Act Play Festival Feb. 7-8.
"Hoodie," written by Lindsay Price, examines image and appearance issues with teens through a series of vignettes. It poses the most difficult question of all: Do I stay in The Clump or stand alone?
Mike Geffre's metals class at CHS created the set of sturdy life-size male and female figures that make up the set. Beth Carlson is the director of the play. Gabriela Ostgaard is assistant to the director and lights/sounds operator. Mallory Cuno is lights/sounds operator.
