The Golden Eagles' struggles continued on the road this weekend with losses to Upper Iowa and Winona State. The Peacocks won 91-68 Friday and the Warriors took Saturday's contest 68-41.
The losses extend Minnesota, Crookston's losing streak to five games. It falls to 5-11 on the season and 2-10 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
"Upper Iowa plays real well at home," noted UMC head coach Mike Roysland. "That was a game we were really hoping we could come up with a win. We are struggling to put the ball in the basket. They caught fire, made a lot of really good shots and we were trying to play from behind. We started to do some pressing to speed the game up and we got what we wanted, but they started launching threes."
The effort is there for the Golden Eagles, the consistency and confidence are lacking, though.
"The team is playing hard," said Roysland. "We are having a hard time finding consistency. We have too many players not playing consistent. There are some kids that have lost some confidence. That's what's hurting us right now. Then you start to press.
"We need to find a way to get into a comfort zone," continued Roysland. "We need to look to what's ahead and get back in the groove. There's no better place to do that then at home."
The Golden Eagles will look to snap their losing skid Friday, Jan. 25 at home against Northern State on CYBA Night. The opening tip is set for 6 p.m. On Saturday, rival MSU Moorhead comes to town with a tip set for 4 p.m.
