Many of Popejoy's pupils are preparing for Jan. 23 vocal solo contest
The Crookston High School Vocal Department was recently awarded an Artist in the School grant from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council.
Melanie Popejoy is associate director of choral activities at the University of North Dakota, where she conducts the Allegro Women's Choir and Vivo Chamber Ensemble, and instructs courses in Choral Music Education Methods and Music Fundamentals. In addition, she is the founder and artistic director of the Grand Cities Children's Choir, serving as conductor of the elite Primo Voce choir.
Popejoy has been working with the Junior High and Senior High Choir students at CHS, with special emphasis given to students participating in the vocal solo contest on Jan. 23. The grant will conclude with a recital which will be open to the public at a date and time to be determined.
The Northwest Minnesota Ars Council grant funding Popejoy’s time at CHS is made possible by funding from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment.
