The streak continued Tuesday with a 6-1 Pirate win over Detroit Lakes in Crookston. It's not the kind of streak a team wants to have, though. Since Dec. 4, Crookston's last 12 games have alternated wins and losses.
Pirate senior Brianna Breiland recorded a hat trick and now has 37 goals this season. She needs just three more points to reach 200 for her career.
Eighth grader Lexie Cormican recorded 21 saves for the win. Veronica Badurek had 38 saves in goal for the Lakers.
Breiland put the Pirates on the board just 17 seconds in and made it 2-0 at the 4:29 mark of the first period.
Pirate senior Natasha Skala recorded her fifth goal of the season at the 5:49 mark of the first period on a one-time blast from the top of the right circle. Annie Hajostek and Macy Strem each assisted.
Junior Amber Trostad notched her third goal of the season about a minute into the second period on assists from freshmen Tori Demarais and Leah Trostad.
Breiland completed the hat trick about a minute later with another unassisted goal to make it 5-0.
Freshman Sabrina Delorme made it a six-goal game with 5:45 left in the third period with a power play goal assisted by Hajostek.
Emily Payne put Detroit Lakes on the board with a power play goal with about three minutes left.
Now 9-8 on the season, the Pirates will host Thief River Falls in a key Section 8A matchup Tuesday, Jan. 22. The Prowlers won 5-3 Nov. 20 in Thief River Falls.
