Pirates of the Week are submitted by the coaches. See Wednesday's Times for color photos of the Pirates.
Michael Hefta - Boys' Basketball
Head coach Greg Garmen says, "Michael had a nice game versus East Grand Forks where he scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. His continued improvement will be an asset for the Pirates down the stretch."
Erica Samuelson - Girls' Basketball
Head coach Lon Boike says, "Erica had a great game last week versus Breckenridge, scoring 14 points, while recording six rebounds and three steals. Erica scored the first six points of the game and set the tone for the rest of the team with her all around team play!"
Kyle Caputo - Wrestling
Head coach Chad Hitchen says, "Kyle is a junior on the wrestling and has wrestled the first half of the year at 126. Kyle is coming off a come from behind 5-4 win on Tuesday night's match with BGMR. That will give Kyle some added motivation for the upcoming tournaments this weekend, where he plans to wrestle at 120."
Kaitlin Spivey - Girls' Hockey
Assistant coach Jaclyn Martin says, "Kaitlin is a senior for the Pirates and one of our more aggressive defensemen. She's not afraid to get into a scuffle or play the body. Kaitlin does a nice job in front of our net as well, always looking for sticks to pick up. She's a fun player to coach and we hope to keep seeing her aggressiveness in our upcoming games."
Doug Larson - Boys' Hockey
Assistant coach Jeremy Yeager says, "Doug is a great kid on and off the ice and works really hard. The kids all seem to get along with him as he is a good teammate. Doug is a very good two-way player and he is great with the puck. He can really control a 3-on-2 rush with his abilities of vision and hands. The freshman had a goal and an assist against Bemidji Tuesday."
