A Grand Forks man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for his role in a ring that supplied drugs across North Dakota and Minnesota.
Thirty-six-year-old Brian Briggs asked U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson for punishment other than prison but Erickson declined Monday. The Grand Forks Herald reports (http://bit.ly/VQzJ2z ) that prosecutors sought a 16-year term and Briggs' attorney asked for 12.5 years.
Briggs was charged in a conspiracy that investigators dubbed Operation Noah's Ark, after Noah Berglund, an East Grand Forks, Minn., man who admitted forming the drug-trafficking ring. About 20 people were indicted.
