Corps officials say residents in those areas have been contacted about the meeting.

The Army Corps of Engineers is holding a public meeting for landowners south of Fargo who would be affected by a Red River diversion project.

The corps and Red River Diversion Authority have proposed a ring dike for the communities of Oxbow, Hickson and the Bakke subdivision, which is part of a proposed water staging area.

Corps officials say residents in those areas have been contacted about the meeting, which is scheduled Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Bennett Elementary School in Fargo.

The 36-mile diversion would move water from the north-flowing Red River around the Fargo area, which battled major flooding for three straight years, starting with a record crest in 2009.

The White House has signed off on the $2 billion project, but it still needs approval from Congress.
