A weekend incident involving an intruder at a Crookston home has prompted Police Chief Tim Motherway to advise residents to keep their doors locked at all times, even when they are in the house.
"I know it's hard for people in Crookston to change their habits and become accustomed to doing this after not feeling the need to for so many years," he said, "but this happened around noon in broad daylight, not exactly prime time for home invasions."
According to the police report, an elderly woman was talking to her son on the phone at about 12:40 p.m. Sunday when she saw the subject, who turned out to be an underage male, run into her unlocked house screaming about alien bugs biting. The shocked woman immediately called 911, and officers were able to take the boy into custody without incident.
Drug use was involved on the part of the hallucinating intruder, said Motherway, although what kind remains unknown at this time. The boy was brought into the emergency room after being taken into custody. His whereabouts and condition are also currently unknown.
