  • Roseau avenged an earlier loss this season to Crookston, handing the Pirates a 5-2 loss Thursday in Roseau. Crookston won 4-2 on Dec. 6 in Red Lake Falls.
    The Rams jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two periods. Gracie Olson had Roseau up 1-0 after the first period with a goal at the 1:20 mark. Bethany Tangen (:33), Bailey Holter (11:09) and Tianna Gunderson (13:21) scored for Roseau in the second period.
    The Pirates got on the board in the third period at the 10:13 mark with senior defenseman Natasha Skala scoring her fourth goal of the season on an assist from senior Brianna Breiland.
    Eighth grader Maddie Nicholls scored her first career varsity goal about a minute later with Breiland also assisting.
    Katlyn Byfuglien added the final goal for Roseau with 38 seconds left to make it 5-2.
    Pirate eighth grader Lexie Cormican recorded 28 saves in goal. Bridget Slater had 21 saves for Roseau.
    Crookston is now 7-7 on the season. It will host Park Rapids today with the puck set to drop at 7:30 p.m.
