  • A West Fargo man accused of abusing dogs last summer has been sentenced to three days in jail and 15 hours of community service.
Authorities say 25-year-old Jason Weisgerber kept two dogs in a hot, feces-littered garage for more than two weeks without necessary food and water. He pleaded guilty through his attorney to a misdemeanor animal abuse charge.
Weisgerber did not appear personally in court Wednesday. The Forum reports (http://bit.ly/UImZgy) Judge John Irby said he wished Weisgerber had appeared to explain his actions, which the judge called "callous." He also ordered Weisberger to pay a $300 fee and restitution to be determined.
Prosecutor Tanya Martinez says one of the dogs is with a new owner but the other had to be euthanized.
