  • Boys' hockey: Pirates let lead slip, lose 5-3

  • Fargo North scored four consecutive goals Thursday to beat Crookston 5-3 in the first game of the Ralph Engelstad Arena Holiday Classic in Thief River Falls.

  • Fargo North scored four consecutive goals Thursday to beat Crookston 5-3 in the first game of the Ralph Engelstad Arena Holiday Classic in Thief River Falls.
     
    Robert Helming gave Fargo North a 1-0 lead in the first period but the Pirates answered early in the second period on a shorthanded goal by senior Ryan Edevold at the 2:12 mark. Senior Ryan Bittner gave Crookston the lead four minutes later with his eighth goal of the season on an assist from Edevold.
     
    With 7:05 left in the second period Michael Gunderson tied the game at 2-2 for Fargo North and with 3:53 left Spencer Helming scored a power play goal for a 3-2 lead.
     
    At the 1:38 mark of the third period Spencer Klein made it 4-2 and Seth Brenneman finished the four-goal run at the 7:48 mark of the third.
     
    Pirate senior Brady Heppner cut the deficit to two with 1:22 left with his 11th goal of the season but it was all the Pirates could muster.
     
    Junior Parker Epema recorded 28 saves in goal for Crookston. Christian Coleman had 13 saves for Fargo North.
     
    The Pirates are now 6-4 on the season and will take on Irondale today at 5 p.m. in Thief River Falls.
