In two of their last three games the Pirates have raised some eyebrows. And not in a good way.
Tuesday, Crookston was taken down 5-1 by Moorhead, who is now 2-6-1 on the season. Last Tuesday the Pirates were stunned 5-4 in overtime by Bemidji, who earned its first win of the season.
Junior Brooke Schmitz tied the game against Moorhead at 1-1 at the 6:03 mark of the second period with a power play goal on an assist from senior Brianna Breiland, but the Spuds took a 3-1 lead with two in the minutes of the second period.
Moorhead's Tori Davis added two goals in the third period to seal the win for the Spuds.
Eighth grader Lexie Cormican recorded 34 saves in goal for the Pirates, while Brianna Storms had 29 saves in goal for the Spuds.
Now 5-5 on the season, Crookston will host East Grand Forks Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with the boys' varsity game to follow. The Pirates will then host the second annual Pirate Invitational Dec. 27-28.
