Janet M. Paulsen, 79, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at home in Green Valley, AZ. Jan was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Minneapolis, MN, graduated from Crookston, MN High School, in 1950. Worked for Minneapolis Honeywell and Pillsbury Mills, 1950-55. Graduated from Moorhead (MN) State College with degrees in biology, chemistry and math in 1958. Graduated from VPI (Virginia Tech) with a masters degree in biochemistry and nutrition; and a Ph.D. in biochemistry with a minor in microbiology in 1966. Taught high school in Stephen, MN and at Bemidji State College in the 1960s. Taught at Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN, from 1966-1993 in chemistry, anthropology, sociology and health departments. In 1976, Jan received a masters degree in public health from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
In 1994, Jan was inducted into the North Dakota Women’s Golf Hall of Fame. She was a member of the USGA Women’s Committee representing North Dakota and Arizona in the 1990s.
Jan moved permanently to Green Valley, AZ, in 1994, where she volunteered as secretary and treasurer of the SIH Homeowners Association for 10 years, St. Andrews Childrens Clinic, and Green Valley Assistance Services. She was a member of San Ignacio and Canoa Hills Ladies Golf Associations.
Jan is survived by friend Margaret Moore, Green Valley, and sister Mavis Sprague, Crookston, MN, as well two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Gunna Paulson, and a brother-in-law, John Russel Sprague.
Memorial service will be held at Valley Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, Dec. 19th, at 3 p.m. Reception at the church following the service, plus a 4:30 p.m. gathering at Grill on the Green at Canoa Ranch.
