Wife of former Crookston resident Bob Windels and daughter-in-law of Harvey and Jeannine Windels of Crookston.

Nancy Beth (Hayward) Windels, age 51, of Eden Prairie, passed away on December 11, 2012 after a 3-year journey with cancer.  Survived by husband of 25 years, Bob; children Laura, Jonathan and Katie; brother Mark Hayward; father and mother-in law Harvey and Jeannine Windels of Crookston, brothers-in-law John and Lori, Paul and Kathy; Gary; Mark and Kay, and Steve and Jennifer; plus 15 nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by parents John and Mary Jo Hayward and brother, Tom Hayward.

Nancy was adopted as an infant into the Hayward family which she fully embraced.  Nancy’s lively personality always filled the room, through her high school years in New Brighton, her college years at St. Olaf, and her entry into seminary at Luther Northwestern, after marrying Bob in 1987.

The Windels’ moved to Fergus Falls in 1995 where she began her pastoral career at Bethlehem Lutheran.  They returned to the Twin Cities in 2000 for her call as Associate Pastor to Normandale Lutheran in Edina. There she preached a joyful gospel, both through sermons that reflected her personal journey and her unwavering commitment to family and friends.  She taught confirmation with a loving twinkle in her eye.  Nancy walked many people through dark times and gave them strength, and she brought her creative gifts and vision to many other ministries there.  After her diagnosis with lung cancer in 2009, Nancy was not afraid, but was determined to live fearlessly and inspire others to do so, as witnessed in her Caringbridge blog, which became a new venue for her message of God’s endless grace.
