  • Former Minnesota first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz (mint-KAY-vich) has been chosen by the Twins to manage their Class A affiliate in the Florida State League, the Fort Myers Miracle.
The Twins announced their minor league assignments for 2013 on Monday.
Mientkiewicz played for the Twins from 1998 to 2004. He was the hitting coach last season for the Ogden Raptors in the Pioneer League, a rookie level farm club of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jake Mauer, who managed the Miracle from 2010 to 2012, has been moved to Class A Cedar Rapids in the Midwest League. The Twins switched their affiliation to the Iowa team from the club in Beloit, Wis.
One of Mientkiewicz's former Twins teammates, outfielder Chad Allen, was also hired. He'll be a coach for Double-A New Britain.
