A Polk County resident has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for engaging in criminal sex acts with minors over the course of 11 years.
Michael Duane Finn Sr., 55, of Fertile, offered an Alford plea – admitting that sufficient evidence exists to convict but without actually admitting guilt – to first-degree criminal sexual conduct-penetration or contact under 13-injury-use force/coerce and to third-degree criminal sex conduct-force or coercion in September. Three other counts of first- and third-degree criminal sex were dismissed.
Judge Michael Kraker sentenced Finn on Monday to 156 months in prison, with conditional release after confinement of 10 years. He is required to register as a predatory offender and attend a sex offender program, along following with other standard felony-level sentence obligations including supply DNA sample, no use or possession of firearms or dangerous weapons for lifetime and not to vote until civil rights restored. Finn must also pay fines and fees totaling $185.
Finn was arrested in April after an investigation determined that he had forced children under age 13 and age 16 to 17 to perform various sex acts with him multiple times between April 4, 2001 and April 12, 2012.
Finn's criminal history includes convictions for wrongfully obtaining assistance in 1993 and violation of a protection order in 1996, as well as several traffic violations.
