Pirates of the Week are submitted by the coaches. See Wednesday's Times for color photos of the Pirates.
Cody Weiland - Wrestling
Head coach Chad Hitchen says, “Cody is a sophomore and is starting his fourth year on the varsity. He had a third place finish at the Wahpeton tourney over the weekend. Cody followed that performance up with a win in Thief River Falls Tuesday, earning the milestone of 100 career wins.”
Travis Vatthauer - Boys' Basketball
Head coach Greg Garmen says, “The senior co-captain had a nice game against Park Rapids in our opener. Travis scored 14 and had nine rebounds and played a strong floor game for the Pirates. Travis will need to be one of the leaders for the Pirates all year long.”
Tori Demarais - Girls' Hockey
Assistant coach Jaclyn Martin says, “Tori’s a freshman defenseman for us and has shown tremendous improvement since last year. She’s off to a great start this season and has become one of our go-to defensemen on power play and man short. Tori is more comfortable back there and also is a very coachable kid. Knowing when to jump the play or pinch are key components to defense and we believe Tori has those qualities. She also sees the ice well and has great hands, which is an asset for any player.”
Danica Brekken & Erica Samuelson - Girls' Basketball
Head coach Lon Boike says, “In a recent game at Hopkins, Erica recorded ten points against Robbinsdale Cooper in a 77-68 loss. Erica recorded several rebounds and played outstanding defense. What makes this more amazing, is that Erica had knee surgery earlier this spring and her knee is getting stronger every day! Erica is a captain, and a senior on this year’s team.
“In two games this year, Danica is averaging eight points per game to go along with several steals and outstanding defense. She has also knocked down a couple of three pointers and really caused problems for opposing team’s guards. Danica is a sophomore and also participates in soccer and softball.”
Hunter Geatz & Dylan Reitmeier - Boys' Hockey
Head coach Jon Bittner says, “Hunter had a couple of excellent JV games vs. Blake and Kittson County Central where he picked up the hat trick. Hunter is making the most of his senior year, providing leadership and playing as an example for the younger players on the JV.

“Dylan scored two goals in the JV game against Blake and got another goal against Kittson County Central. He has worked hard on and off the ice as well as during the season and spring skills and summer high school tournaments. He is growing as a player and is a great person in the locker room.”
