With the final 2013 budget set to be approved this month, Polk County will hold its public budget/levy meeting on Thursday, Dec. 5 in the commissioners room at the Polk County Government Center. The meeting will get underway at 6 p.m.
Residents are welcome to attend and listen to the information presented about next year's proposed budget, which stands at around $53, and levy, currently proposed at a 3 percent increase over 2012. They can also ask questions about the budget and levy in general, but inquiries pertaining to specific parcels would be better directed to Assessor Rob Wagner during regular office hours.
Commissioners changed their regular meeting this week from Tuesday to Thursday, which begins at noon, to accommodate the budget/levy meeting. A 2013 budget work session to discuss the final proposed budget is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., with a break from 5 to 6 p.m.
City, school budget hearings
Statute requires that annual, public budget hearings, once known as "truth in taxation" hearings begin no earlier than 6 p.m. So, in order to comply with the statute, the Crookston School Board meeting on Monday, Dec. 10 has been pushed back from its normal meeting time of 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The budget hearing will kick off the meeting.
As for the City of Crookston, the regular city council meeting on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. will be preceded by the budget hearing at 6:30 p.m. in the city hall council chambers.
