  • Girls' basketball: Pirates stumble out of the gates, lose 77-68 in Breakdown Tip-Off Classic

  • Crookston trailed 45-26 at halftime to Robbinsdale Cooper in the Breakdown Tip-Off Classic in Hopkins Saturday, but fought back in the second half to make things interesting. The Pirates lost, however, 77-68 to Cooper, a Class AAAA team.
     
    Sophomore center Brooke Heggie led the Pirates with 18 points, while sophomore guard Sydney Boike added 17 points and senior center Erica Samuelson recorded ten. Sophomore guard Danica Brekken and senior guard Kaylee Desrosier each had eight points.
     
    Chelsey McGee led Cooper with 22 points, while Laurie Bohler had 16. Cooper had five players in double figures.
     
    The Pirates are 1-1 on the season, ranked No. 10 in Class AA, and will face Stephen-Argyle Friday in Stephen at 7:30 p.m.
