Sheriff's Office says ice isn't safe.

A man fishing in a boat on a rural Erskine lake was rescued on Wednesday, Nov. 21 after a neighbor saw him hanging from his boat in the water.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office received the call at 4:15 p.m. Reid Wahlin, 59, had fallen out of his boat and broke through the ice on Lake Alyssa. He was in the cold water for 20 to 30 minutes before being rescued.

Wahlin was treated at the scene by Polk County EMS personnel. Mentor Fire and Rescue also assisted at the scene.

The incident prompted the PCSO to remind people to stay off the ice until they know for certain it has attained a safe thickness.
