While the Pirate girls’ basketball team will be starting a new season on Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Crookston Pep Band will also be starting something new, under the direction of Chris Brandt. Throughout the game on Tuesday, members of the community all ages and talents will be able to play along with the pep band and help pump up the team and crowd.
This is a new idea that Crookston High School has never participated in, brought on by Brandt who was influenced by former pep band members. “Former band members have come up to me and told me that their fondest memories of band are from pep band,” said Brandt. Hearing this, Brandt decided why not let them enjoy another night of performing with the pep band instead of just listening to the music.
Community members playing with the pep band are welcome to attend a short rehearsal in the band room at 6:45 p.m. and will be admitted to the game for free. They will play with the band for both pre-game and at half time.
Depending on the band’s turnout on Tuesday night, Brandt would like to make this a new tradition and plans to have it return come playoff time. “It doesn’t matter if you quit band last year or 30 years ago,” said Brandt. “We’re inviting anyone from the community to come play with us.”
