The U of M, Crookston Hunt Seat Equestrian team hosted its first home shows of the 2012-13 season Saturday and Sunday at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC). The Golden Eagles finished second Saturday and earned the team High Point Title Sunday after several riders had first-place finishes. The team was led by Sable Bettencourt (Fr., Cloquet, Minn.), who tied for Reserve High Point Rider Sunday.
Both days of competition got off to a ferocious pace as the Golden Eagles picked up several wins and strong showings over fences. Angela Peterson (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) finished second in both the Intermediate Division of Equitation over Fences and the Intermediate Division of Equitation on the Flat during Saturday's competition. Peterson and Denise Thompson (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) each won their Intermediate Equitation over Fences sections Sunday. Saturday, Amanda Overman (Jr., Lindenhurst, Ill.) picked up a win in the Novice Division of Equitation over Fences. Emily Steeley (Fr., Portsmouth, R.I.), third in Open Equitation over Fences both days, had a big win in Open Equitation on the Flat Saturday. Chelsea Roetman (Jr., Owatonna, Minn.) had a big win in Open Equitation over Fences Sunday. Bettencourt, third in her section of Novice Equitation over Fences, won Novice Equitation on the Flat Saturday. She then went on to win her over fences class Saturday and come in second on the flat Sunday, tying her for Reserve High Point Rider.
Hannah Nedrud (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.), who competed in Equitation over Fences for the first time in her career this weekend, was second in the Novice Division. Jessica Charles (Sr., Belgrade Lakes, Maine) was second in both her Intermediate Equitation over Fences and on the flat sections Sunday.
Both Tiffany Rask (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.), in Novice Equitation on the Flat, and Sam Kramer (So., Corcoran, Minn.), Beginner Walk Trot Canter, won their sections during Sunday's action. Annalee Sundin (Jr., Deer River, Minn.) was second in the Advanced Division of Walk Trot Canter and then was second in the Novice Equitation on the Flat Sunday. Rebekah Landmark (Fr., Montevideo, Minn.) was second in her section of the Beginner Division of Walk Trot Canter Saturday. Katherine Berg (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) won her Beginner Walk Trot Canter section and Rachel Gaardsmoe (Fr., Petaluma, Calif.) was second. Paige Clark (Fr., Andover, Minn.) had two big wins in Walk Trot both days.
The Golden Eagles finished second in Saturday's competition to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities but came away with the team victory Sunday to earn the High Point Title for the show. The Golden Eagles' next competition will be Feb. 9-10 at home at the University Teaching and Outreach Center.
