  •     The City of Crookston has put out the official call for anyone interested in representing ward four on the city council for the next two years.
Wayne Melbye turned in his resignation last week from his ward four post, and it's effective Dec. 31. He was elected on Nov. 6 by a wide margin to the at-large council seat held by Frank Lindgren, who didn't seek another term. Melbye said during the campaign that he felt he was better suited for an at-large role on the council, since he frequently talks to residents from throughout the community about all kinds of issues.
City Clerk Angie Menge says anyone interested needs to, by 4 p.m. on Nov. 30, submit to city hall a letter of interest, resume that details employment, community involvement and other public benefit interests, and two reference letters.
In the meantime, an informal meeting will be held in the council chambers at city hall on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. for anyone who's interested in hearing more about the opportunity to be appointed to finish Melbye's ward four term. Melbye will host the meeting.
Mayor Dave Genereux has formed a committee to go over the portfolios submitted by potential appointees that's comprised of various council members and city officials. The committee will interview candidates in December and eventually the council will appoint the chosen candidate. Genereux said he'd like to have the appointee seated on the council before the end of December.
Melbye has said he'd be available to assist the new council member as he or she gets up to speed on how the council works, and how ward four works.
