  • Women's basketball: Wiese’s 31 points pushes Golden Eagles past Comets 85-72

  • Golden Eagle senior point guard Brittani Wiese put up a career high 31 points on 12 of 18 from the field to lead UMC in an 85-72 win over Mayville State Thursday in Mayville, N.D.
     
    Redshirt freshman guard Jaya Perkins added 13 points, sophomore guard Ashley Martell had 11 and freshman forward Katrina Moenkedick had ten. Senior center Laurie Tyson record four points and 11 rebounds.
     
    Mayville State was led by Marcisa McMillan with 25 points and seven rebounds, while Hailey Longtin added 12 points.
     
    Minnesota, Crookston jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening two minutes, but Mayville State soon knotted the score up a 12-12.
     
    With UMC holding a slim 18-17 with just under 11 minutes left in the first half, the Golden Eagles went on an 8-0 run in about a minute span.
     
    Minnesota, Crookston took a 46-35 lead into halftime and never trailed in the second half.
     
    Mayville State turned the ball over 23 times to Minnesota, Crookston's 13 times. The Golden Eagles had 12 steals.
     
    Minnesota, Crookston will compete in a Thanksgiving tournament Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24 in Grand Canyon, Ariz. It will face Fort Lewis on Friday and Western New Mexico on Saturday.
