The demolition of the onetime Z-Place and Rock’s Jewelry buildings on Main Street in downtown Crookston is expected to commence Monday afternoon, Nov. 19. The goal, said recently retired fire chief Richard Rock, who’s been hired by Polk County to coordinate the demolition project, is to, by Thanksgiving, reduce both buildings to a pile of rubble ready to be hauled away.
Rock also alerts the public that the portion of West Robert Street immediately to the south of the Z Place building will be closed to traffic while the demolition is underway.
Donarski Construction is doing the demolitions, and will be moving in the heavy equipment Monday morning. The project timeline is weather-permitting, but the forecast for early next week at this point looks favorable.
Once the buildings are gone and the debris is hauled away, city and county crews will back-fill the site.
