U of M, Crookston Head Baseball Coach Chris Vito has announced the signing of Travis Magdzas, an outfielder from Fond du Lac Community College, to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period. Magdzas will play his final two seasons with the Golden Eagles beginning in the fall of 2013. He is the first early signee for Coach Vito during his six seasons as head coach for the Golden Eagles.
All signees are contingent upon admission to UMC and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
“We are thrilled that Travis has decided to attend the University of Minnesota, Crookston and play for the Golden Eagle Baseball program,” Vito said. “He will add instant experience in our outfield as well as leadership on our team. Travis is a welcome addition to Golden Eagle Baseball.”
Magdzas is 5-foot-8 170 pounds, and currently attends Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet, Minn. He bats right-handed and throws right-handed. He has been a two-year starter for the Thunder. Magdzas is serving as team captain for Fond du Lac this season. He was named First Team Academic All-Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) last season. He played his high school baseball at Denfield High School in his hometown of Duluth, Minn., where he was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter. He served as team captain for two seasons and was named First Team All-District. He also participated in the District 8 All-Star Game. Magdzas led his American legion baseball team with a .543 batting average and a .641 on-base percentage. He also played three years of varsity football for the Hunters of Denfield High School where he started at linebacker.
Magdzas was born Oct. 8, 1992. He is the son of Dennis and Terri Magdzas. He attends to major in criminal justice and minor in athletic coaching at UMC.
