  • Valley City State erased a four-point Minnesota, Crookston lead with 13 minutes left in Monday's season opener with a 12-0 run in a little over a minute and the Vikings went on to beat the Golden Eagles 68-60 in Valley City, N.D.
     
    Senior point guard Brittani Wiese led the Golden Eagles with 15 points, shooting 7 of 14 from the field. Ashley Martell added 14 points, shooting 5 of 11 from the field. Katrina Moenkedick added eight points and Laurie Tyson had seven.
     
    Minnesota, Crookston was out-rebounded 40-24 by Valley City State.
     
    The Vikings were led by 18 points from Courtney Titus. Brittany Lehner had 14 points and nine rebounds and Alyssa Hummel added 11 points.
     
    The Golden Eagles led 28-27 at halftime and their largest lead of the night was four. The Vikings led by as much as ten with under two minutes left.
     
    Minnesota, Crookston, which falls to 0-1 on the season, will travel to Mayville State Thursday before a Thanksgiving tournament in Grand Canyon, Ariz. Nov. 23-24.
