Junior forward Brandon Burns recorded a team-high 18 points and three other Golden Eagles scored in double figures as Minnesota, Crookston defeated Presentation College 80-66 Friday in the season opener.

Senior point guard Almir Krdzalic added 16 points and three assists, while junior forward James Sparkman had 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior shooting guard Justin Rake chipped in 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Senior forward Abdou Niang and junior guard Ashton Harrell each had seven rebounds.

The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 53.6 percent from the field and a solid 36.4 percent from beyond the arch.

Presentation was led by 18 points and six rebounds from Darrell Farr. Anthony Hendricks added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Presentation led 37-36 less than a minute into the second half when Minnesota, Crookston went on a 16-0 run over a four-minute stretch.

The Saints cut the deficit to six points with 11:15 remaining but sophomore guard Tim Lubke responded for the Golden Eagles with a key three pointer to make it 57-48, putting UMC back in the driver's seat and cruising to victory.

Minnesota, Crookston is back in action Thursday, Nov. 15 against Finlandia in Hancock, Mich.
