Health officials have confirmed a case of tuberculosis in a Grand Forks elementary school student.
City spokesman John Bernstrom says the child was immediately pulled from class and parents of other students were notified when the test results came back on Tuesday. People who might have been exposed will be screened by local public health officials.
Officials last month confirmed three other cases of TB in Grand Forks County, all in adult men. Bernstrom says the child's case is related to those.
TB is a potentially fatal infection that typically attacks the lungs, though it also can affect the kidneys, spine and brain.
