  • Paul Allen, radio host of KFAN's nine to noon show in the Twin Cities and voice of the Minnesota Vikings, interviewed Pequot Lakes Head Football Coach Chip Lohmiller Tuesday morning on his radio show and Allen picked Lohmiller's Patriots to defeat Crookston Tuesday evening.

Pirate Head Football Coach Scott Butt was interviewed by Paul Allen Wednesday morning on Allen’s radio show.

P.A., as he is known, is spotlighting outstate football teams on his radio show and adopted Pequot Lakes as his favorite squad.

But, as with most of Allen's predictions, he was wrong.

The Crookston Pirates defeated the Pequot Lakes Patriots to advance to the Section 8AAA semifinals Saturday against top-seeded Perham.

"Now that we've beaten them, maybe we can get P.A. to be a Crookston Pirate fan," said Pirate Head Coach Scott Butt. "We have some of the best fans around and if P.A. wants to jump on with us we'd be more than happy."

Coach Butt noted that Allen bringing attention to outstate high school football is a great thing.

"It's great that P.A. is doing that. We would love for Paul to give us a call and talk to us about our team," Butt said. "High school football is a big deal in this state. It's wonderful that P.A.'s trying to get involved with the outstate teams."
