  • Crookston native Reneé Wall Rongen may have released her latest book, "Fundamentally Female™," for sale to the public only last Monday, but thousands of copies were already pre-sold across the country during her first speaking and book-signing tour throughout the month of October. Local residents will have to wait a bit longer to catch the award-winning humorist, inspirational speaker and author in action, as she'll be debuting the book on her home turf Nov. 3, starting with a book signing at RiverView Auxiliary's Affair of Tables.
Rongen will donate 15 percent of the book sales that day to the auxiliary. Although admittance to the Affair of Tables is by invitation only, Fundamentally Female will be available for sale after the event at Limited Addition (RiverView's gift shop), This is Sew Broadway and Cycle of Threads in Crookston. There will also be a book signing at the Mill Street Mercantile in Fertile.
"Fundamentally Female has been in the works for a long time, and I am so excited to finally see it all come to fruition," says Rongen. "This book is very special as it involves not only my writings but also pieces and artwork from other contributors, many of them local. It is a global collaboration by, for and about women."
The book is dedicated to the birthday club her mother, Sharon Wall, has belonged to for 45 years, consisting of women who resided or still live in Crookston. Several of these women, including Wall, are also contributors to the book.
"My mom attributes much of her success in life to these women who loved her, encouraged her and disciplined her," says Rongen.
In promotional materials, Fundamentally Female is described as "sassy and soulful, brazen and bright... It identifies the universal substance of a woman: the friendships she honors, the vulnerability she exposes, the impact she makes, the intimacy she covets, the secrets she keeps. Rich in wit, wisdom, and honesty, this collection of candid and diverse voices speaks to generations of females in search of confirmation, inspiration, and joy as it peels away the layers to expose the very soul of womanhood.
"Rongen amasses a feast of quips and quotes, provocative vignettes, and tender stories that spans the gamut of the female experience, then wraps it in delicious, eclectic artwork created by artists from around the world.
The book retails for $19.95 in the U.S. and $21.95 in Canada. Rongen says Fundamentally Female will be converted for Kindle, however "this is one that you will want on your coffee table in hardcover" with all its colorful and elaborate artwork.
