  • The Pirates' season was cut short Thursday with a 5-1 loss to Detroit Lakes in the Section 8A Playoffs in Detroit Lakes.
     
    The Lakers posted four goals in the first half with Luke Payne scoring three of them.
     
    Detroit Lakes opened up a 5-0 lead at the 68th minute of the contest before Crookston got on the board in the 74th minute on an unassisted goal by Jacob Egeland.
     
    "We played well in the second half, but couldn't overcome the deficit we had at halftime," Pirate Head Coach Don Cox said. "Jacob Egeland scored our only goal on a breakaway on the left side of the net. His shot went under the keeper's arm."
     
    Pirate senior goalkeeper Aec Boike recorded 13 saves, while Laker goalkeeper Ethan VanOffelen had six saves.
     
    The season closes with a 3-12-1 record for the Pirates. Seniors on the team include: captains Egeland, Sean Williams and Samuel Miller, as well as Boike, Blake Brekken, Mitchel Wright, Justin Burgoz, Derek Haggerty and Brady Larson.
