A Walsh County, N.D. deputy sheriff is in jail in Crookston after being arrested early Thursday morning in connection with an attempted burglary at the Holiday gas station and convenience store on North Main in downtown Crookston.
Adam Michael Koenig, 22, of Park River, N.D. is being held for burglary and damage to property after Crookston Police officers, at 3:42 a.m. Thursday, responded to the report of a suspicious person with blood on his face standing by the wood pile outside of the Holiday convenience store.
When officers arrived they observed the far right, east-side glass door at Holiday smashed in by a block ash tray. Officers entered the store and found the suspect laying on the floor behind the till area. He had a bloody face, a cut eye and swollen lip, and his eyes were closed. Officers gave verbal commands to the suspect, who then opened his eyes and complied.
At that point, officers noticed he was wearing a badge on his belt. The suspect subsequently identified himself as a deputy sheriff with the Walsh County Sheriff's Office in North Dakota. He was not armed.
Koenig was then transported to the RiverView Hospital emergency room for treatment of his injuries. According to the CPD, it appears that Koenig's injuries apparently occurred before he entered the Holiday store.
The Walsh County Sheriff's Office has ben notified and the investigation continues.
