  • Women's soccer: Golden Eagles put together win streak on weekend split

  • The Golden Eagles earned their second consecutive victory and second win of the season in a 2-0 win over Northern State Saturday in Crookston. Minnesota, Crookston lost 2-0 to MSU Moorhead Sunday, also in Crookston.
     
    That makes the Golden Eagles 2-9-1 on the season and 2-6-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
     
    Minnesota, Crookston hosts Winona State and Upper Iowa next Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
     
    UMC vs. NSU
    Freshman forward Courtney Armborst scored a goal and assisted on another in the UMC victory.
     
    Junior forward Nikki Hammond put UMC on the board about six minutes into the match when she drilled a goal to the upper left hand corner of the net. She was assisted by Armborst.
     
    The Golden Eagles held their one-goal lead until Armborst sealed the deal with an unassisted goal off her own rebound at the 89:21 mark to make the final score 2-0.
     
    Sophomore goalkeeper Ashleigh Erdmann, a Crookston native, was solid in net, recording one save to earn the shutout for the Golden Eagles. Shaina Stein recorded four saves for the Wolves.
     
    UMC vs. MSUM
    The Dragons scored two second-half goals when Amanda Wurdeman nailed a shot to the upper left corner a little over a minute into the half to put MSU Moorhead up 1-0. She was assisted by Erin Nyberg. The Dragons put the game away at 50:39 when Nyberg played a ball in front of the net and found the right hand corner scoring an unassisted goal.
     
    Ashley Leintz recorded one save for the Dragons. Sophomore goalkeeper Drew Underdahl recorded two saves for the Golden Eagles.
